Early support

Language is very important for children’s development and well-being, especially as a foundation for learning and developmental processes in many different areas. Not all children have the same access to the German language. For many children, daycare centers and playgroups are the places where they receive stimulation and support for their language development.

We offer language support integrated into daily life at daycare centers and playgroups in the Canton of Basel-Landschaft. The program is funded by the Canton of Basel-Landschaft and the municipalities (each contributing half). There are no additional costs for parents associated with this support.

This program is designed for children ages 2.5–4. The ald promotes learning through everyday activities. To enroll, we need the group/daycare director’s approval and the completed parent form.

On behalf of the Integration Department of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft, the Basel-Landschaft Foreigners’ Office will conduct supervision of early intervention programs in the Canton of Basel-Landschaft from 2024 to 2027. This initiative is open to all early intervention programs (playgroups and daycare centers), is voluntary, and is free of charge. For canton-recognized early intervention programs, supervision is mandatory once a year. It includes an on-site visit to the playgroup or daycare center, plus a preliminary and follow-up meeting.

Supervision serves as a quality assurance and quality improvement measure for language support programs. It is a targeted form of counseling for educational staff, designed to help them strengthen their existing skills and encourage reflection on their own practices.

Information on the supervision process

The focus is on professional exchange and feedback; supervision is not designed to be evaluative and is not a form of control.

• The observation visit to the group lasts 60 minutes.
• The evaluation and consultation meeting takes place about one week later. The playgroup/daycare center director and the supervisor arrange the appointment.
