Early support
General information
Language is very important for the development and well-being of children, especially as a basis for learning and development processes in many different areas. Not all children have the same access to the German language. For many children, the playgroup is the place where they receive stimulation and support for their language development.
We offer everyday integrated language support in German in playgroups in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. The service is financed by the canton of BL. There are no additional costs for the lessons. For further information, please contact your responsible playgroup leader.

If you would like to register your child in a playgroup with language support, you can obtain the addresses of the playgroups in your area from the relevant local authority. If the demand for support in your selected playgroup is high enough, we will organize this within the playgroup.
Would you like to offer individual language support in your playgroup? Give us a call or send us an e-mail. We will be happy to advise you!
On behalf of the Department of Integration / Canton BL, the Baselland Foreigners’ Service is carrying out the supervision of early intervention services in the Canton BL in the period 2024 – 2027. This measure is accessible to all early education services (playgroups and KITAs), is voluntary and free of charge. Supervision is mandatory once a year for cantonally recognized early intervention services. It includes an on-site visit to the playgroup/daycare center, plus a pre- and post-meeting. Information on the 2024 basic contribution: Supervision requests received by the ald by 13.12.2024 (by email, fruehfoerderung@ald-bl.ch), but which are no longer possible in 2024 for organizational reasons, may be made up until the end of February 2025. They can be claimed retroactively as a special case after supervision has taken place when applying for the 2024 basic contribution. This regulation is a transitional solution for the start year 2024 and includes a maximum quota of 30 appointments.
Supervision serves as a quality assurance and quality development measure for language support programs. It is a targeted form of advice for educational staff, who are supported in strengthening their existing skills and encouraging them to reflect on their own actions.
Information on the supervision process
The focus is on professional exchange and feedback, the supervision is non-evaluative and not controlling.
- The group observation visit lasts 60 minutes.
- The evaluation and consultation meeting takes place approx. 1 week later. The appointment is arranged between the playgroup/daycare management and the supervisor.
